Our History

BeyondAutism was founded in 2000. With our schools and Post-19 services established, we noticed a gap in our offering. After several successful pilots in 2017 and 2018, our Early Years provision became a permanent service in June 2018 thanks to a generous grant from an anonymous donor. The service has since received grants from Children in NeedThe National Lottery Community Fund, and Edward Gosling towards the cost of running the service, enabling us to keep it free to the families who attend. We are continually seeking ongoing funding and support to secure the long-term future of the service.

In September 2019, Early Years’ launched the School Readiness Group to assist the transition of autistic children into mainstream primary school.

In February 2021 the Early Years service moved to our permanent home in Bromley. Since moving to Bromley the service has continued to grow and develop, increasing the number of families we are able to support.

In 2022/23 we piloted a specialist nursery provision. We had great feedback from parents and saw real progress in the children who attended, however it became clear that under the piloted model, and in our current premises, we wouldn't be able to scale the service to a level that would enable us to meet the needs of children attending whilst also making it a financially viable service for us as a charity, and we took the decision to close the nursery provision when the pilot ended. We are grateful for the experiences and learning that we take away from the pilot and continue to invest in our successful Early Years' model, leading autism education and providing vital support to children and families in the early years.

Following the nursery pilot, this allowed us to increase our Early Years’ Offer, expanding the service to 5 days a week in September 2023. The service now runs Monday to Friday from our Early Years site in Bromley. The demand for places continues to increase and any donations to allow us to expand the service further and reach more families are always welcome.
